Exactly, Brandi. Parents take the easy way out and snack their kids to death, and make unhealthy choices. Instead of preparing wholesome, healthy meals. Then sit them in front of a TV and go do whatever they want. Parenting is a continuous action and most parents refuse to continue.
I agree with you guys, but before you freak out on parents too badly, remember that any time parents allow their children to play, especially without hovering immediately over them or let them play with toys or in the park that could in some conceivable way injure someone, there’s always someone foaming at the mouth to judge and/or call social services.
This isn’t just a parental issue, it’s a societal issue. Parents use tv and snacks (which I completely disagree with) so that they can get ANYTHING accomplished.
In the old days, moms kicked their kids out of the house all day and could get cleaning, meals, bill paying etc. done. Now parents (lets be honest, moms) are freaked out on if we even consider that, of course we’re also blamed when the children turn out clingy and unable to function on their own.
So yeah, next time you judge, keep in mind that you’re probably a big part of the problem.
Precisely, Armauld. Every time a story is published about a child being injured or kidnapped, the trolls are immediately out in full force: “Where were the parents???”
Many claim to never let their children out of their sight. That must get awfully awkward when you’re following your teenaged daughter into the bathroom at school…
Thing is … when I was a kid, we only had 3 TV channels, and video games consisted of Pong (if you were lucky). So, kids wanted to go outside. But. now when you send your kid out … they just go to a friend’s house and watch TV there.
Don’t forget they’ve linked allergies with obesity too. For all anyone knows that kid could have a wheat allergy that hasn’t been diagnosed because his doctor has his head up his butt. So he has inflammation which has slowed his metabolism. Which has caused weight gain. Which lowered his self esteem to where he eats more to cover up the hurt and exercises less. Then people make fun of him, making him feel even worse about himself, which makes him eat even more….
And all because his doctor refuses to check for any deeper reasons for the kid’s original weight gain. Be it a thyroid problem, allergies, or something else entirely.
Then there’s always the possibility the kid is eating for mental reasons. Like he’s being molested by a teacher or his parents fight all the time and he feels he either needs to eat or cut himself because he has no one he feels safe turning to.
Just saying we need to dig deeper beneath the surface sometimes before piling all the blame on the kid, the parents, or society in general. Yes, some people are fat simply because they’re lazy or even want to be. Some though are fat for other reasons. Emotional problems, medical problems, medication that makes them gain weight, etc. You never know unless you take the time to find out.
Jami, I’m sorry, but medical reasons are less than 10% of the causes of people being fat. The kid in that cart may or may not have one, but that picture exposes what is causing kids to be fatter than heck now a days.
ok, i know this kid. it pains me to say this, mom and dad are not overweight and he actually gets a lot of exercise. not sure what’s going pn here, but he is fed a healthy diet and is outside playing sports or riding his bike whenever he can. he is still young, his dad is 6’5 and 220 lbs of solid muscle. and no, dad does not work out. as this young man ages he will be like his dad.
I’d bet my car that a good 80% of the fat haters are fat asses themselves. I freely admit I’m overweight. IMO, this is my issue and mine alone. But what I’ve noticed about the people that want to say shit – they’re fat, generally unattractive, or those flabby thin people. You know the ones. No muscle definition whatsoever. Actually sitting here thinking about the IRL verbal assaults no one fit, symmetrical, and happy has ever said shit to me. This being the internet though I’m sure you’re all on par with the super models of the world.
The dismissal of Jami is ridiculous. There are reasons, yes usually mental, for people being big. It is an addiction. Like a hoarder or a crack head the coping mechanism for life’s stressors is broken.
