Proud Parents: In The News
This couple went to a seven hour music festival in Stuttgart, more than 400 miles from their home, and before going into the concert they placed their 8-month-old son, Anton, in the trunk, according to German newspaper Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag.
Fortunately for Anton, other concertgoers heard the infant crying and alerted security. When Anton’s parents could not be found, police forced their way into vehicle where they found the baby overheated. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and placed into protective custody.
Now Anton’s 18-year-old mother wants her baby back, saying she’s learned from the experience. She also defended her actions, saying, “We had left the windows [of the car] open a gap… Anton had enough light and air, and the car was in the shade.”
She added that she had informed family aid of their road trip to the concert, and claims that the office said Anton was required to stay with them.
Anton’s father said that the original plan had been for the couple to take turns going into the concert, but at the last minute decided to go to the concert together. His mother says they had planned on taking breaks to check on their baby, but the concert’s no re-entry policy kept that from happening.
She added, “We are a family and we will fight. I want my child back.”

TPP: In The News
CONWAY, SC (WMBF) A Conway woman and her boyfriend are behind bars for child neglect, but records show this is not the first time she’s been charged for the neglect of a child.
WMBF News obtained a report from Conway Police that says an on-going investigation into reported child abuse has landed 30-year-old Amanda Grace Beach Nichols and 21-year-old George Rahiem James in police custody, facing charges for unlawful neglect of a child.
The report says Nichols and James were arrested on February 21 on marijuana charges and cruelty to children, which sparked the investigation leading to their arrests and additional charges.
On that day, the Department of Social Services was contacted to take the children Nichols had in her custody and put them in the care of a relative.
The report says those children were subjected to a drug screening on February 29, which yielded a positive result.
The three children were sent to a recovery center in April, where further investigation by authorities determined Nichols and her boyfriend had abused them, exposed them to marijuana and cocaine, provided alcohol in the form of beer and vodka and also choked two of the three children.
Beach Urgent Care physician Doctor Timothy Hunter said this case is particularly troubling because of the high risk for kids to overdose.
“These doses they give [kids], they would normally give adults are too high of doses for children,” Hunter said. “So high doses of cocaine or alcohol could kill the child right there on the spot.”
The report says none of the incidents of abuse had been reported to police before the victims were placed into protective custody.
Nichols later admitted that she and her boyfriend had smoked drugs in the home with the children, an act witnessed by several other people.
Nichols and James were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by the Conway Police Department, and remain incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center Wednesday afternoon.
Nichols is charged with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person. James is charged with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. No bond has been set for either suspect.
Clayton Chriswell, a neighbor of the two suspects, said he never suspected anything could was wrong until police showed up at the suspects home, and wishes he would noticed sooner.
“It really bothers me,” Chriswell said. “I guess I could have been aware of it, I know there were some strange things going over there.”
